Training For People With Handicaps
What Inspired This Idea
After having a chat with someone that was interested in learning to defend herself but having health issues that would prevent it with most styles, I have decided to build a curriculum that is primarily weapons based for people without the ability to take repeated choking techniques, joint immobilization techniques, throws and slams, repeated strikes, etc due to sickness or old age.
This class will not be offered to people that are completely healthy and just want a fasttrack to leaning stick, staff, sword, chain, etc. This is only offered to people who genuinely cannot train in a traditional sense. There will still be some empty hand technique involved, but it won't be the focal point of the training, just accessory work. The point of this curriculum is to help people that aren't able to train the same but still want to learn to defend themselves. I feel it is a basic human necessity to know how to defend yourself, whether you are young, strong, and full of energy or old and weak, or sick.
When completed, this class will take you through an equivalent 5th kyu level in knowledge and skill, but you will not be able to go any further in rank with me unless you are able to continue your training with the rest of the techniques, then you will be able to progress further. However, if you cannot go any further, you will still be more than competent and able to defend yourself with common items that are around us on a daily basis. Also, as your taijutsu skills with a weapon grow, your empty hand ability will improve as well, even though you aren't training empty handed.
Who Will Be Considered
As I said before, people that are fully healthy will not be eligible for this program. If you do suffer from a handicap, contact me directly to discuss training with me so we can figure out what is best for you. These classes will generally be taught separately from the other classes as it will require a different approach.
